Yellow Snow’s Volume 1 cranks up the holiday spirit with hard-hitting rock, Queen-sized vocals, and a wild mix of originals and reimagined classics that make Christmas sound louder, heavier, and a whole lot more fun.
Yellow Snow’s debut album, Volume 1, takes the holiday season somewhere it’s never gone before. The brainchild of Rhode Island-born creator, composer, and producer Mike DiBiase, the project delivers hard rock swagger with attitude-laden horns, massive Queen-style vocals, and a rowdy festive spirit that’s been part of DiBiase’s DNA since 2007.
After years of headlining wild holiday shows and cultivating a loyal cult following, DiBiase took his holiday rock vision to Nashville, enlisting a powerhouse lineup that includes Kyle Cook, Derek Wells, Curt Ramm, Bill Holloman, Nathan Barlowe, Jon Coleman, Dave Cohen, and Ryan Scarbrough. He tapped Jack Joseph Puig to mix and Gavin Lurssen to master the ten-track collection, which lights up with explosive originals like “Man in Red” and reimagined classics such as “Father Christmas,” “What’s This?,” and “Drummer Boy.”
“What's This?,” the classic tune written by Danny Elfman for Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, gets a bold new twist as Yellow Snow make it completely their own. “I never knew if it was a Christmas or Halloween song,” DiBiase says. “Instead of doing a traditional orchestral arrangement, I thought, ‘Let’s go for big Queen-style vocals and really make it rock with heavy guitars.’”
He laughs, recalling how he drank a bottle of wine before recording his vocals, adding, “The vein in my temple was about to pop out of my head, but it fits our brand. It’s definitely a rockin’ song now.”
Before the full band lineup came together, DiBiase spent years gifting friends and family his hard rock Christmas songs and performing under the Yellow Snow banner at local Rhode Island clubs, always donating part of the proceeds to charity. The band’s live shows became legendary, and one of DiBiase’s originals, “Giddy Yup, Santa Claus,” even landed on an episode of Riverdale.
With Volume 1, Mike DiBiase and his crew have bottled that spirit, bringing a mix of irreverence and authenticity to the holiday genre. Influenced by everything from Stone Temple Pilots to Stax, Yellow Snow turn the season of goodwill into a loud, joyous rock spectacle. One that’s equal parts attitude, heart, and holiday cheer.
