Despite the album title, Wyatt Flores has never come across like he’s afraid of anything. On his second album Scared Of Heights, the Oklahoma songwriter fully buys into that lack of fear and floors the gas pedal. Across 13 songs, he turns the past few years of his life into a cinema-like ride through heartbreak, restless nights, revelations, and the anxious thrill of becoming whoever comes next.

Produced by Charlie Handsome, Jacob “JKash” Hindlin, and Gian Stone, the album expands Flores’ worldview without sacrificing the downhome vibe that first drew fans to him. These are songs about chasing something bigger than yourself while wrestling with the fear that comes with catching it. The result is larger than life but never detached from one man’s humanity at its center.

“I finally feel like I know who I’m supposed to be, right here in this moment,” Flores says. “I’m not second-guessing myself anymore on what the music’s supposed to be, what I’m supposed to be chasing, or who I’ve become.” That certainty gives Scared Of Heights its power. Flores isn’t pretending the turbulence has disappeared. He’s just learning how to navigate it.

The album follows 2024’s Welcome To The Plains, a debut that established Flores as one of country music’s most compelling young storytellers. That record opened doors to appearances on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and more. It also comes after his first live release, Live At Cain’s Ballroom, and another year of milestones that’ve included his Grand Ole Opry debut, a 2024 Americana Honors & Awards nomination, and recognition on Rolling Stone’s 25 Future of Music list. He also received the Rising Star Award from the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater and the PLUS1 Rising Star Award. For Flores, the view from the top may still be intimidating. But on Scared Of Heights, he’s not afraid to look and sounds ready to take it in.
