WILLOW has never been an artist content to play in a single-genre sandbox. Across eight studio albums, she's treated music like an empty house to be furnished, wandering freely between rock, soul, alternative R&B, and experimental pop. With The Thread, her second album of 2026 following petal rock black, she continues that unapologetic evolution with her most intimate and spiritual record yet.
Written and produced with longtime collaborator Chris Greatti, whose chemistry with WILLOW goes back to 2022's COPINGMECHANISM and the Grammy-nominated empathogen, the pair turn The Thread into a meditation of music in motion. Across ten tracks, acoustic folk vibes intertwine with atmospheric soul, jazz flourishes, mellow R&B, and bright pop melodies, creating an album that’s very much otherworldly.
Its guiding philosophy reaches beyond music. Inspired by filmmaker Ky Dickens' documentary The Telepathy Tapes and the research of Dr. Diane Hennacy Powell, WILLOW explores ideas of consciousness, intuition, and the invisible connections that bind people together. Rather than offering easy answers, The Thread brings listeners into a place where emotion, spirituality, and curiosity can all coexist.
Lead single "Talk On The Hill" introduced the record's dreamlike atmosphere in hushed tones, its folk-inspired framework giving way to grand harmonies and heady lyrics. Elsewhere, "She's My Religion" becomes one of the album's bigger moments, celebrating the divine feminine with equal parts reverence and vulnerability. It's devotional without becoming dogmatic, demonstrating again WILLOW's gift for taking deeply personal ideas and turning them into universal experiences.
Greatti's production never overwhelms the songs, instead allowing organic instrumentation and spacious arrangements to breathe. Every guitar strum, vocal harmony, and jazz-inflected chord feels like it’s exactly where it’s meant to be.
