Vince Staples’ new LP RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART follows his critically acclaimed self-titled 2021 release, which introduced and welcomed fans to his hometown, the Ramona Park neighborhood of Long Beach, CA.
Working again with producer Kenny Beats, Vince Staples’ concise and clever wordplay continues to impress, and even in the record’s quietest moments, you’ll feel an underlying sense of power brimming under the surface.
But Vince Staples is more than just a rapper.
Staples recently released his debut graphic novel, Limbo Beach, via Z2 Comics, co-written with industry vets Bryan Edward Hill (Batman & The Outsiders and HBO Max’s Titans), Chris Robinson (Children Of The Atom), and Buster Moody (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). According to Z2’s website, it follows the journey of the newest member of a band of misfit teenage raiders on a journey to discover the truth about the park, in a tale that’s equal parts Lord Of The Flies and The Warriors.” Well, with The Warriors being one of my all-time favorite films and as a fan of Bryan Edward Hill’s work on Titans, that was enough for me! I personally just ordered a copy and I can’t wait to read it.
This week the celebrated rapper is doing the Coachella thing, just days away from his second show there this weekend on the 24th.
