Vicious Rumors unleash The Devil’s Asylum, a blistering new album that fuses their 45-year legacy with the fire of a revitalized lineup.
Vicious Rumors roar back with The Devil’s Asylum, their first album in five years and a record that captures both the weight of their history and the spark of a revitalized lineup. The record follows more than 150 shows that celebrated the band’s four and a half decades of ferocity while igniting fresh momentum.
Geoff Thorpe, guitarist, vocalist, and driving force behind the band since its formation, frames the release as both a return to roots and a push forward. “Vicious Rumors look back at a career that spans 45 years, so there’s only one goal for us: everything we do should always be significant, every show, every song, every new album. This band has always stood for maximum intensity, powerful music and fresh ideas.”
The Devil’s Asylum comes alive with that mission, built on Thorpe’s songwriting and guitar work alongside original drummer Larry Howe and longtime bassist Robin Utbult. Together, they create the kind of crushing, melodic foundation that has long defined the band. Add in two new players and the chemistry is stronger than ever. Frontman Chalice delivers a vocal performance that Thorpe describes as the closest anyone has come to late singer Carl Albert, yet with a personality entirely his own. Guitarist Denver Cooper, discovered while supporting Vicious Rumors on tour, brings another layer of firepower and stage-ready swagger.
Recorded in four studios in just a few intense weeks between December 2024 and January 2025, the eleven tracks showcase the band at full power. Singles like “Bloodbath,” “Dogs Of War,” and “Crack The Sky In Half” each capture a different side of the attack, from speed metal assault to anthemic resilience. The title track reflects on today’s volatile world, a reminder of how Vicious Rumors have always drawn strength from struggle.
Thorpe calls the sessions “quick and intense” and points to the final product as some of the band’s strongest work. The Devil’s Asylum is a record that connects past and present, uniting longtime fans with newcomers while proving that after 45 years, Vicious Rumors still thrive on energy, heaviness, and the thrill of the fight.
