The album collects recordings from Rhiannon Giddens, Valerie June, Allison Russell, Leyla McCalla, Sistastrings, Adia Victoria, Sunny War, Miko Marks, Saaneah Jamison, Rissi Palmer, and Caroline Randall Williams.

Offered Randall, "I had songs recorded in the 80s, in the 90s, in the 2000s, and 2010s, but I never once had the joy of hearing one of the songs that I wrote from the perspective of a Black woman recorded by a Black woman. With this project... I hope to change that."
