The Shootouts mark ten years together and their tenth Opry appearance with a new video for their heartfelt cover of Yaz’s “Only You,” from their acclaimed album Switchback.
The Shootouts are marking a decade in a big way. The Akron, Ohio trio are celebrating both their 10th anniversary and their 10th Grand Ole Opry appearance, with a brand new video for their heartfelt cover of the Yaz classic “Only You.” The track appears on their acclaimed album Switchback, produced by Dan Knobler (Allison Russell, Lake Street Dive). “This video and this song feel like the perfect way to celebrate where we’ve been and where we’re headed,” says frontman Ryan Humbert. “To be standing on the Opry stage for the 10th time on the very same day we mark our anniversary – it doesn’t get more meaningful than that.”
Directed by Patrick Tohill of Crashbang Productions, the video captures the warmth and chemistry that define the band’s first decade together, featuring Humbert, Brian Poston, and Emily Bates alongside a full supporting cast. The song itself, written by Vince Clarke and first recorded by Yaz in 1982, takes on a new life in the Shootouts’ hands. Their Switchback version features Sam Bush, Lindsay Lou, Russ Pahl, Mickey Raphael, Jen Gunderman, Jason Burger, and Knobler himself. The band later revisited the song for a stripped-down bluegrass rendition, bridging '80s synth-pop and traditional Americana in a way that feels both nostalgic and new.
Formed in 2015, the Shootouts built their reputation on sharp musicianship, heartfelt storytelling, and a tireless touring ethic that’s made them a favorite across the Americana circuit. Their most recent album, Switchback, has been hailed as a high point. Rolling Stone praised it as “the sleeper Americana LP of the summer,” and Twangville ranked it the “#2 Best Album of 2025 (So Far).” The record spent more than ten weeks in the Americana Music Association’s Top 10 Album Chart, peaking at number four, and features collaborations with Sam Bush, Vince Gill, Lindsay Lou, Mickey Raphael, and Rodney Crowell.
Ten years in, the Shootouts are still finding new ways to celebrate where they came from and where they’re headed. With Switchback and “Only You,” they’ve shown how Rustbelt roots and timeless country spirit can meet the modern moment without losing their heart.
