The Northern Belle are at the forefront Norway's ever-evolving Nordicana scene, and with its eclectic mix of songs and haunting clarity, and their new album Bats In The Attic proves why.

Emboldened by a stack of long-forgotten letters penned by the Northern Belle frontwoman Stine Andreassen's grandfather, Bats In The Attic weaves a rich musical narrative that roams the realms of life, death, and everything in between. For Andreassen, the album's inspiration stemmed from this treasure trove of 60-year-old letters exchanged between her grandparents. These missives, hidden away in an attic for three decades, served as the catalyst for introspection and exploration. As she dug into themes of love, loss, and the circle of life, Andreassen crafted a deeply personal album that resonates with raw emotion and unfiltered honesty.

Joining Andreassen and her bandmates on this trip through her family’s past are Snorre Kiil Saga on bass and Solveig Wang on keys, with Marcus Forsgren in the producer’s chair. Together, they bring Andreassen's vision to life, elevating each track with lush arrangements. Standout tracks like "Treat Yourself Better" and "Fresh Dew" showcase the band’s versatility. The former is a feminist anthem celebrating independence and self-worth, underscored by funky basslines and infectious harmonies. Meanwhile, the latter channels the spirit of Led Zeppelin with some rocking acoustic guitar riffs and high-spirited energy. Closing out the album is "Hell & Back," a jangly Americana gem that exudes charm and charisma. With its catchy hooks and spirited lyrics, it's a fitting conclusion to this personal journey we’re all lucky to be invited on.

As pointed out on their bandcamp page, the Northern Belle's new album "incorporates a diverse mix of styles, from Cardigans-type pop, via southern rock, to frail indie ballads. Everything executed with the musical finesse the band is known for."
