The Mighty Rootsmen unites reggae legends like Toots Hibbert, Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, and Sly & Robbie to reimagine classic rock anthems with soul, swagger, and a deep island groove.

In one of the most ambitious reggae projects in recent memory, The Mighty Rootsmen delivers a sun-drenched, soul-deep reinvention of classic rock through the lens of Jamaica’s finest. Produced by Ralph Sall (Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Cat Stevens), the album brings together reggae titans Toots Hibbert, Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Mykal Rose, and the legendary rhythm section of Sly & Robbie to breathe new life into tracks by Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, and Steve Miller Band.

Recorded at Jamaica’s Anchor Studios, The Mighty Rootsmen is a celebration of both reggae and classic rock. It captures the feel-good essence of Jamaica and fuses it with the timeless melodies of rock’s golden era, resulting in something entirely new. The lineup reads like a dream team of reggae greatness, rounded out by the likes of Mikey Chung, Robbie Lyn, Sticky Thompson, and members of the Zap Pow Horns - David Madden, Calvin "Bubbles" Cameron, and Glen DaCosta.

“Fly Like An Eagle” rides a hypnotic groove while Steve Miller’s original guitar lines float above the skank. On “I Won’t Back Down,” Mike Campbell’s unmistakable licks hold steady beneath Mykal Rose’s smoky vocals and Sly & Robbie’s unshakable foundation. It’s all a reverent love letter to both reggae and rock. “The idea,” says producer Ralph Sall, “was to do something that hadn’t quite been done before - bring together giants of reggae to reinterpret rock classics in a way that honors both worlds. These are iconic songs, but each now carries a distinct reggae stamp.”

That balance, between homage and invention, is what makes The Mighty Rootsmen feel like more than a novelty. This isn’t reggae karaoke. It’s roots music reimagining rock music, with masterful musicians trusting their instincts and jamming with palpable joy. Luciano channels spiritual fire, Isaacs brings his trademark cool, and Toots - one of the genre’s greatest voices - adds a deeply human touch that connects every note to the genre’s core. The album is more than a crossover, it’s a cultural bridge, a groove-soaked tribute to rock and roll’s legacy. It’s a true feel-good record that radiates good vibes and musical reverence. With The Mighty Rootsmen, the musicians here don’t just revisit rock history, they help rewrite it thanks to timeless songs, unforgettable voices, and the undeniable pulse of reggae at its finest.
