The Meffs come out swinging on Business, the second album from the Essex punk duo of guitarist/vocalist Lily Hopkins and drummer Lewis Copsey. Following 2024’s What A Life, the new record packs 11 songs with the urgency, frustration and sharp social commentary that have made the pair one of the UK punk scene’s most exciting young bands. The Meffs have built a reputation for being “louder than a four-piece.”

Produced by Dan Weller, Business was written after a whirlwind 2025 that saw the Meffs support the Sex Pistols and the Undertones, sell out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and hit major festival stages including Glastonbury, Download and 2000trees. That experience feeds directly into an album designed to capture the sheer force of two people making a remarkable amount of noise.

The title track takes aim at the expectations and contradictions of the modern music business, particularly the pressure to be authentic while still fitting neatly into somebody else’s idea of what an artist should be. Elsewhere, “Disorder (Wake Up)” turns its attention toward the state of the world, “So Modern (Keep Up)” brings the chaos of the duo’s live shows into the studio, and the 30-second “Fight” delivers its message before you’ve had time to recover from the opening punch.

There’s plenty happening beneath the volume. “Like Gravity” digs into self-deprecation, while “Love To Lose” and “Where Did It All Go Wrong?” show a band increasingly comfortable stretching its songwriting without sacrificing the directness that got people listening in the first place. “God Complex,” featuring German punk band Donots, adds another jolt to an already relentless record.

The Meffs first began attracting attention with their Broken Britain EPs, both produced by Frank Turner, before making the jump to a full-length with What A Life. Along the way they’ve shared stages with everyone from Alice Cooper and the Damned to Kings Of Leon while remaining outspoken supporters of independent venues as patrons of the UK’s Music Venue Trust.

With Business, the Meffs turn anger, vulnerability, politics and the absurdities of everyday life into a lean blast of modern British punk. Two people, 11 songs and absolutely no shortage of things to say.
