On A Light That Waits, the Fray return with a collection of songs shaped by change, perseverance, and the bonds that endure through it all.

The Fray’s A Light That Waits arrives at a pivotal moment for the Denver band. More than a decade removed from their last full-length album and now operating as a trio following the departure of longtime frontman Isaac Slade, Joe King, Ben Wysocki, and Dave Welsh have chosen not to dwell in the past. Instead, they’ve created a record that acknowledges change while holding tight to the emotional connection that made the Fray one of the defining bands of the 2000s.

The title proves especially fitting. Throughout these eleven songs, the Fray lean into themes of perseverance, faith, friendship, and finding your footing when life doesn’t go according to plan. There’s a sense of hard-earned perspective running through tracks like “Still Got You,” “My Heart’s A Crowded Room,” and “Wherever You Reach For Me,” while the title track serves as a mission statement built around hope rather than certainty.

Musically, A Light That Waits reconnects with the qualities that first drew listeners to the Fray: piano-driven melodies, soaring choruses, and songs that balance vulnerability with resilience. Joe King steps confidently into the lead vocalist role, bringing a different texture to the band's sound while preserving the emotional honesty that has always been central to their music. Produced by the band alongside Jason Suwito and Ryan Linvill, the album feels focused and collaborative, reflecting a group rediscovering what it means to create together.

More than anything, A Light That Waits shows a band finding its footing again. The Fray have been through significant changes since their last album, but those experiences give these songs their weight. There's an honesty here that comes from time, distance, and perspective, with themes of friendship, faith, and resilience woven throughout. The result is an album that feels grounded, direct, and unmistakably human.
