Tedeschi Trucks Band dig deeper into their expansive roots-soul sound on Future Soul, a new collection that spotlights the chemistry and firepower of the band’s dynamic lineup.

Future Soul finds Tedeschi Trucks Band leaning deeper into the collective chemistry that has made the 12-piece ensemble one of the most popular acts in roots music. Led by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, the band’s sixth studio album delivers eleven songs shaped by the group’s deep bench of musicians and writers.

Trucks calls it his favorite set of songs the band has put on record, while Tedeschi notes the album carries a slightly more punk spirit than listeners might expect. The result feels like a band stretching comfortably beyond the blues foundation many associate with them.

The album opens with the relaxed funk-soul groove of “Crazy Cryin’,” before moving into the infectious mid-tempo drive of “I Got You,” written by guitarist and vocalist Mike Mattison. Built aroud vocalized guitar lines that became a playful call-and-response between voice and instrument, the track nods to the spirit of Derek and the Dominos and Delaney & Bonnie.

“Who Am I” follows with a laid-back J.J. Cale-style sway that recalls the mood of “Midnight in Harlem,” while the title track arrives with a blast of energy that gives Trucks room to explore new textures on his 1958 Flying V, experimenting with pedals and tones rarely heard in his playing.

Future Soul grew out of a period of intense touring following the band’s ambitious 2022 quadruple album I Am The Moon. When the core group gathered at the Tedeschi Trucks family farm in Georgia in 2024, ideas quickly began flowing. For the first time, the band also brought in an outside producer, working with Mike Elizondo to capture the live energy that defines Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Since forming in 2010, the group has built a remarkable résumé, including a Grammy-winning debut with Revelator, multiple Blues Music Awards, and sold-out shows at venues from Madison Square Garden to Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Future Soul captures a band still evolving while staying rooted in the spirit that brought them together in the first place: a collective of seasoned musicians pushing each other forward, one song at a time.
