The greatest of all soul duos, Sam & Dave brought the sound of gospel to pop music. The Soul Classics collects tracks recorded following their 1977 reunion. Disc 1 offers reinterpretations of their older hits and new versions of soul classics. Disc 2 features unreleased concert recordings from 1981.

From the 1992 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductees, The Soul Classics includes the best of their late '70s Nashville sessions and previously unreleased concert recordings from that era.

In the summer of 1964, Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records was attending a DJ convention in Miami. Florida record man Henry Stone suggested he stop in at a nightclub called the King of Hearts to check out a local singing duo known as Sam & Dave. "It was like 165 degrees,” Wexler later told writer Rob Bowman. “It was hot and they were hot... When I heard them there that night, that was all she wrote. I signed them up immediately.” Sam & Dave’s work with producer Isaac Hayes and backing band Booker T. And The M.G.’s made them a formidable team. Their hit “Soul Man” endures today as an R&B smash and a unifying force between black and white audiences. This collection focuses on the year 1977 to 1981. Disc one offers reinterpretations of their older hits and new versions of soul classics. Disc Two features concert recordings from 1981 before their final break-up.
