Ross Valory has spent more than five decades helping shape rock history, but with his long-awaited solo debut, All Of The Above, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bassist finally steps into the spotlight. Best known as a founding member of Journey, Valory uses the album to reveal a side of his musicianship that extends far beyond the stadium, drawing on a lifetime of influences that have been waiting for the right moment to emerge.

While Journey fans know him for his melodic bass playing and steady presence on classics like Escape and the era-defining anthem "Don't Stop Believin'," Valory's musical journey stretches back even further through Bay Area pioneers Frumious Bandersnatch and the Steve Miller Band. Throughout those years, he quietly accumulated ideas that never fit within the framework of the bands he called home. Those ideas finally come together on All Of The Above.

More than fifty years in the making, the album finds Valory stepping into the roles of composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist. In addition to his signature bass work, he plays keyboards and guitar while exploring jazz, fusion, Latin rhythms, and progressive rock with the confidence of someone following inspiration rather than expectations.

To bring that vision to life, Valory assembled an impressive cast of musicians, including Prairie Prince (Journey, The Tubes), Santana percussionist Karl Perazzo, saxophonist Marc Russo (The Doobie Brothers, Yellowjackets), and keyboardist Eric Levy (Night Ranger). Their performances give the 10-track collection both technical precision and an adventurous spirit, allowing each composition to carve out its own identity.

That diversity is evident throughout the album. "Wild Kingdom" bursts with Latin fire, "No One Wins a War" offers a more reflective and romantic turn, "Low Rider" pays joyful tribute to War, and Valory puts his own stamp on Santana's "Incident at Neshabur." Every song is accompanied by a video co-created and directed by Michael Cotten and Valory himself, turning All Of The Above into a multimedia experience rather than simply a collection of instrumentals.

The album also reflects years spent refining ideas between Journey tours and countless hours in Valory's East Bay recording studio. Working closely with Levy and engineer Jacob Stowe, he revisited musical sketches dating back decades, shaping them into compositions that feel both timeless and deeply personal. As Valory put it, All Of The Above is "a reflection of so many musical influences in my life," and he hopes it reaches listeners beyond the audience that knows him from Journey.
