Phoenix Calamity Blues (Single)
Release Date: May 12, 2023
A song for our times - for all times. The folk pop duo Phoenix releases "Calamity Blues" as a single to follow up on the success of their 2022 album Viewpoint.
"Calamity Blues" came to be when the author of this song, Tim Crosby, realized that the news of the day isn't much different than the news of every generation as far back as we can imagine. Along with his wife, Kathy Crosby, this song was edited and molded into an upbeat folk blues tune that offers a simple solution to the problems we live with today - and every day.
As Phoenix, Tim and Kathy have recently been announced as nominees for the Josie Music Awards Duo of the Year. Winners will be announced in a ceremony at the Grand Old Opry in October of this year.
Based in Salem, Oregon - the folk pop duo Phoenix consists of award-winning songwriters Tim and Kathy Crosby - who have been performing together for well over 20 years. Together they have collaborated on several CDs and are known far and wide for their songwriting abilities and high energy entertainment style.
Tim and Kathy have performed together from Las Vegas to Nashville, in large venues and small. Now being compared to the likes of Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings - Phoenix rises in the joy of a sound that highlights the multi-instrumental talents of both musicians while focusing on a variety of vocal styles and abilities.
Known as the "talent" of the duo as he is proficient on any instrument with strings, Tim Crosby spends his days teaching a variety of students the joy of playing a musical instrument. His private classes take place in both Salem and Corvallis, Oregon.
The "personality" of the couple is Kathy Crosby, who not only manages Phoenix, but spends her days teaching piano lessons in the Salem, Oregon area. In addition to this she is a GrammyU Mentor, writer, public speaker, consultant, and musical advocate. Currently she serves as the Vice President of the Oregon Festival and Events Association.
