Prog metalers Mutoid Man approached Mutants with an unrivaled passion and vision, channeling their experiences, growth, and relentless dedication into an album that defies expectations and showcases their evolution as musicians.

Mutoid Man burst onto the scene in 2013, unleashing a powerful blend of basement punk's raw energy, classic metal's showmanship, and prog rock's intricate musicality. With their debut EP Helium Head gaining significant attention, the Brooklyn trio embarked on a whirlwind journey, releasing two full-length albums, Bleeder (2015) and War Moans (2017), while relentlessly touring the US and Europe. At the time, Saint Vitus, the legendary underground New York metal bar and venue, pretty much became their second home. Mutoid Man's relentless ambition, coupled with tour support slots for Mastodon and Danzig, made it seem like their ascent to heavy metal greatness was inevitable.

But life has a way of throwing curveballs, and the band faced its share of challenges. Line-up changes, leaving Brooklyn, getting distracted with other musical projects, and, of course, the global pandemic put Mutoid Man on an unexpected hiatus, seemingly halting their promising trajectory. However, with their determination unwavering, Mutoid Man emerge from a six-year recording break to reclaim their throne with Mutants, their third full-length album and perhaps their most mind-boggling effort to date.

The dynamic duo of guitarist/vocalist Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Old Man Gloom) and drummer Ben Koller (Converge, Killer Be Killed) has always excelled in crafting a unique brand of frenzied, technically adept, and dynamic metal. Having grown up in the hardcore scene and quickly surpassing its technical boundaries, they playfully push each other into more outrageous and catchy territories, defining the essence of Mutoid Man's sound. Now joined by bassist Jeff Matz of High On Fire and Zeke fame, the trio is a formidable force once more, combining prog-level musicianship with the irreverence of punk, creating a thrilling amalgamation on Mutants.

Mutants serves as a testament to Mutoid Man's resilience and unwavering commitment to their craft. As they reclaim their place in the pantheon of metal, the band stands ready to reignite the fervor of their devoted fans and captivate new listeners with their unbridled energy, technical prowess, and punk attitude. The wait for Mutants was long, but the reward is a welcome musical journey that solidifies Mutoid Man's place as an unstoppable force in the world of heavy music.
