On Press Play, BLACKPINK’s LISA celebrates her Thai roots and journey to global fame across six tracks that bring her personal story into a cinematic pop production.
LISA puts her Thai roots at the center of Press Play, a six-track EP that connects her life before international fame with the performer she has become. Following her debut solo album, Alter Ego, the BLACKPINK rapper and singer brings her own history into sharper focus, pairing a personal subject with a cinematic concept.
Lead single “SaWaDiKa” makes that connection explicit. Taking its title from a Thai greeting, the song delivers a confident introduction built around LISA’s rap delivery. Its imagery draws on Muay Thai and Bangkok street culture, carrying references to her home country into the presentation as well as the music. The greeting becomes an invitation to get better acquainted with the woman behind the famous name.
During a recent interview, LISA explained that the project follows her journey from her roots to the present, incorporating Thai elements and giving each song a distinct character. That movie-inspired approach also informs “Tarantino,” the second single, whose title nods to the filmmaker. Together, the two songs introduce a project where identity and performance share the screen.
Press Play also arrives as LISA’s work extends further into film and television. Her appearance in the third season of The White Lotus and the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her documentary, Always Lalisa, have given audiences additional ways to meet her. This EP brings that attention back to the music, with Thailand providing the starting point for her next chapter.
