Leon Bridges is ready to move again. On his fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime, the Grammy-winning singer reconnects with the warmth and soul that first introduced him to the world while opening the door to Afrobeat, Brazilian music, disco and South American rhythms.

Produced by J Lloyd-Watson and Lydia Kitto of Jungle, Happiness Anytime grew out of a four-day Los Angeles writing session in April 2025. Bridges had crossed paths with the pair for years at festivals and shows, but once they finally got into a studio together, things happened quickly. Six songs emerged during those first four days, built around an instinctive approach that favored feel and spontaneity.

That looseness runs throughout the album. Bridges wanted to make music that got him moving again, and songs including “Light the Way,” “Your Love Is Electric,” “Talk It Over” and the title track pair his unmistakable voice with supple bass lines, horns and rhythms drawing inspiration from Fela Kuti, Brazilian music and the soulful pulse of Jungle’s own work. Lydia Kitto also joins Bridges on “All Day, All Night.”

The sessions brought in some accomplished musicians as well. On “Take My Hand,” bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Eric Harland were brought into the studio and encouraged to capture the song in a single take, another example of the spontaneity that shaped the record.

For Bridges, the album’s title sums up what he hopes these 12 songs can offer. Rather than looking at happiness as something constantly out of reach, he approached the record as a chance to find light in everyday life and make music people can turn to regardless of how they’re feeling.

Following 2024’s Leon, Happiness Anytime brings Leon Bridges back with an album made for movement, connection and, most importantly, joy.
