Raised in Reykjavík, Iceland by a family of musicians, Laufey began playing piano and cello at a young age, eventually performing as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in her teens. Her father is Icelandic and her mother, a classical violinist, is Chinese, a dual heritage that shaped her artistic identity. While studying at Berklee College of Music, she released her debut single “Street by Street” in 2020, which quickly drew attention for its elegant blend of jazz tradition and contemporary pop sensibility. From there, her career accelerated with the release of Everything I Know About Love in 2022 and her Grammy-winning album Bewitched in 2023, making her the youngest artist to win Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
