Keith Urban sets sail for the smooth waters of Yacht Rock on Flow State, with shipmates including Michael McDonald, Little Big Town, and John Mayer.

After decades of blending country, rock, and pop into a chart-dominating career, Keith Urban is steering in a surprising new direction. On Flow State, the four-time Grammy winner trades arena country anthems for sun-drenched grooves, polished harmonies, and the breezy optimism of yacht rock. And somehow it feels perfectly natural in the way it rediscovers the comfort these songs have always provided.

Recorded at Urban's Nashville studio The Sound with longtime producer Dann Huff, Flow State pays tribute to the soft-rock classics that once drifted across radio airwaves while giving things a fresh spin with his unmistakable guitar playing and modern production style.

The album features Urban's interpretations of beloved yacht rock staples, including "Baby Come Back," "Just The Two Of Us," and "Summer Breeze." Yet Flow State is more than a covers project thanks to its lone original track, "We Go Back," a reflective duet with the yacht rock's undisputed king Michael McDonald, whose unmistakable voice helped define the genre in the first place.

Elsewhere, Urban recruits an impressive cast of guests to flesh out the album's laid-back atmosphere. Country vocal powerhouse Little Big Town joins him on a shimmering version of "Magnet And Steel," while guitar virtuoso John Mayer lends his signature touch to "Guitar Man," creating a six-string showdown between two of modern music's most celebrated players.

"The origins of this kind of music was, in certain ways, a reaction and an antidote to the stresses of the times," Urban says. That attitude runs throughout Flow State. At a moment when playlists move at lightning speed and attention spans seem shorter than ever, the album lets listeners slow down and settle into the moment.

For an artist whose career includes 13 CMA Awards, 15 ACM Awards, and more than 11 billion global streams, the album is a reminder that beneath the genre labels and radio formats, Keith Urban has always been drawn to songs that connect people. On Flow State, he follows that instinct straight into the sunset, enjoying the simple pleasure of letting a great song be the wind in your sails.
