Jack White remains one of modern rock's most fearless flag flyers on Frozen Charlotte, charging forward at full volume fueled by instinct and conviction and finding new ways to make his amplifier speak.
Jack White learned early on that playing by the rules got you nowhere in rock and roll. Nowhere real at least. Just when it seemed the garage-rock hero had wrung every ounce of electricity from the lean, explosive sound of No Name, he plugged back in and turned the voltage even higher. His seventh solo album, Frozen Charlotte, explodes from the speakers and captures one of rock's most restless renegades at full throttle.
Recorded at White's own Third Man Studio in Nashville, the album was made almost immediately after a run of live shows, with White and his battle-ready band finding a way to bottle the stage energy before settling in to relax. Rather than taking a well-earned break, White, along with drummer Patrick Keeler, bassist Dominic Davis, and keyboardist Bobby Emmett walked straight off the stage and into the studio, continuing the chemistry that made their concerts so combustible.
That immediacy defines Frozen Charlotte. It’s got the ragged, high-wire energy of 2024's No Name, but it never feels like a sequel or leftovers from that record. Instead, White simply continues to do what does best without overthinking things, summoning songs that sound as though they're always on the edge of flying apart before snapping back together at the last possible second.
White has always thrived on tension, balancing technical precision with joyful unpredictability, and Frozen Charlotte leans heavily into that philosophy. Every track finds a different shade of controlled chaos, whether it's a guitar workout, a groove steeped in Delta blues, or a melody that briefly softens the album's relentless pace before another wave of distortion crashes in.
White's supporting cast deserves equal credit. Keeler's drumming provides the engine, Davis locks every groove into place with control, and Emmett's keyboards inject splashes of color. Together, they play less like backing musicians than a band operating on instinct. For longtime fans, Frozen Charlotte is another essential chapter in Jack White's ever-expanding rock-and-roll mythology.
