Honeymoon Suite come out to play after dark on Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down, and they’ve still got plenty to say and are far from being stuck in the past.

Four decades in and still going strong, Honeymoon Suite return with Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down, a powerful follow-up to 2024’s Alive. The Canadian rock veterans double down on what made them legends in the first place - the massive hooks, melodies that still have muscle, and that unmistakable mix of charging guitars and soaring vocals.

Produced once again by Michael Krompass (Steven Tyler, Theory Of A Deadman), the album is in a class with itself when it comes to modern classic rock. Krompass, who helped shape the crisp, energized sound of Alive, brings the same touch here, adding a sleek, contemporary production to the band’s signature ’80s punch. Guitarist Derry Grehan remains a six-string force, shooting off solos and chugging riffs with arena-sized ambition. Frontman Johnnie Dee’s voice hasn’t lost an ounce of its power, his delivery is still smooth, soaring, and seasoned by years on the road and in the studio. Together, the band channels their golden-era energy into something fresh and full of heart.

The album is filled with anthems tailor-made for long drives and loud speakers. Songs come alive with urgency, toggling between revved-up rockers and reflective, mid-tempo ballads. The title track captures the bittersweet ache of time passing with a mix of swagger and sentiment, while other cuts hit harder, proving Honeymoon Suite can still throw down with the best of them. It’s a record that wears its history proudly. Fans of hits like “New Girl Now” and “Feel It Again” will find familiar comfort in the band’s DNA, but there’s something sharper here - leaner arrangements, tighter grooves, and a sense that Honeymoon Suite aren’t chasing their past glory. They’re building on it.

From their 1985 debut through Racing After Midnight and Monsters Under The Bed, Honeymoon Suite found their own space where melody met might, earning them a place among Canada’s most beloved rock bands. With Wake Me Up When The Sun Goes Down, they prove that legacy isn’t a weight, it’s fuel. This is a band still in motion, still evolving, and still writing songs that hit like a fist to the heart.
