Green Day revisit every era of its career on Nimrods The Soundtrack, mixing 22 fan favorites with a brand-new song, unreleased live recordings, and other new music that brings the film's world to life.
A well-worn pair of Vans, skateboards, late-night parking lots, and a soundtrack blasting from the stereo. That's the spirit Green Day taps into with the Nimrods The Soundtrack, a collection that celebrates the band's past while adding a few reasons for longtime fans to dive back in.
Rather than settling for a straightforward greatest hits package, the soundtrack pulls together 22 songs spanning Green Day's career, from the scrappy energy that made them punk rock heroes to the arena-sized anthems that followed. Familiar favorites sit alongside deeper cuts, making the collection feel like it was assembled by fans who know the catalog inside and out.
The biggest draw is the exclusive material. Green Day contributes the brand-new studio track "I'm Never Gonna R.I.P.," along with four previously unreleased live recordings captured at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles during the filming of Nimrods. Those performances add an extra layer of excitement, giving listeners a taste of the band's live intensity while tying the music directly to the film.
Nimrods follows three teenage friends whose punk band believes it's been invited to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve, only to discover the offer is the result of an elaborate prank. Refusing to let go of what they think is their big break, they pile into a van and race from Kansas City to Los Angeles.
The story is inspired by Green Day's own early years, when Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool were crisscrossing the country in a beat-up tour van long before Dookie turned them into rock stars.
