On Somewhere Between, Gotts Street Park pair soulful grooves and analogue warmth with intimate, collaborative songwriting.

On Somewhere Between, Gotts Street Park bring their soulful studio instincts to the intimate songwriting of folk and Americana, joined by a cast of collaborators including Celeste, Matt Maltese, Pip Millett, and Rosie Lowe. The Leeds trio’s follow-up to On The Inside grows out of a shared enthusiasm for records that put feeling and musicianship at the center.

For Josh Crocker, Tom Henry, and Joe Harris, that approach comes naturally. The bassist and producer, keyboardist, and guitarist met through Leeds’ live music scene, developing a musical partnership alongside individual writing and production work for artists including Kali Uchis, Celeste, and Mabel. Their belief in the possibilities of musicians working together in one room remains central to the group.

During the making of Somewhere Between, Blaze Foley, Jessica Pratt, and Big Thief became regular listening companions, while Crocker immersed himself in Neil Young and early ’70s recordings. Those influences entered the sessions without a formal decision to change direction. The trio followed their shared interests, bringing their analogue recording sensibilities into songs shaped by folk and Americana.

Collaboration drives the writing as well as the performances. Guest singers developed their own lyrics in response to the trio’s music, allowing each partnership to take its own course. Olive Jones opens the album on “Wake Me Up,” Pip Millett joins “Flowers,” and Matt Maltese appears on “Some Birds Don’t Fly.” Celeste contributes to “Easy,” while Rosie Lowe, Sofia and the Antoinettes, and anaiis complete the vocal lineup. Instrumental pieces including “Nico’s Theme,” “Lay Low,” and “Slippy” give the musicians space of their own.

That exchange is the album’s guiding idea: three musicians creating a foundation, then leaving room for another person’s words and perspective. Somewhere Between brings a broad range of voices into a shared musical conversation.
