Fishbone - Stockholm Syndrome

Fishbone return with Stockholm Syndrome, a blistering new chapter that turns four decades of defiance into a genre-smashing, truth-telling blast aimed straight at the chaos of now.

After more than 40 years of chaos, conviction, and crowd-surfing truth-telling, Fishbone are back with Stockholm Syndrome, their first full-length album in over two decades. Rather than a comeback, think of it as a continuation. A reawakening. A middle finger to stagnation and a love letter to resistance.

Since exploding out of the L.A. punk scene in 1979 with a sound that defied classification and a message that defied silence, Fishbone have never been easy to pin down. Ska, funk, punk, soul - they’ve bent them all into their own kinetic language. And on Stockholm Syndrome, that language is raw, urgent, and more articulate than ever.

The first single, the provocatively titled “Racist Piece of Shit (RxPxOxS),” hit hard last fall, a blunt gut-punch that channels the band’s righteous anger into something as fierce as it is necessary. Follow-up single “Last Call in America” (featuring George Clinton), co-written by OG members Christopher Dowd and Walter “Dirty Walt” Kibby, dials into today’s chaos with a funk-laced pulse and a sobering warning. “This song is a warning call to humanity to recognize the inflection point that is tearing the soul of this country and world apart,” says Dowd. And you can feel every syllable of it.

Yes, the lineup’s shifted - founding members Norwood Fisher and Dirty Walt - stepped away in 2024 but the flame still rages. Frontman Angelo Moore leads the charge with Christopher Dowd back in the mix, and the current crew - James Jones (bass), Hassan Hurd (drums), John “JS” Williams II (trumpet, vocals), and the return of guitarist Tracey “Spacey T” Singleton - sounds like a band not trying to recapture old glory but forging a new one.

Over the past four decades, Fishbone have survived the industry meat grinder, personal demons, and near-misses that would’ve buried a lesser band. Their story is a wild ride of near-misses and nonconformity - equal parts heartbreak, headspin, and high-octane groove. In the past year alone, they’ve shared stages with Madness, Tool, and Primus, and are about to hit the road again, this time with Less Than Jake and select Vans Warped Tour dates.
