Father John Misty returns with Chloë And The Next 20th Century, his first new material since 2018’s God's Favorite Customer.

Chloë And The Next 20th Century, which was written and recorded August through December 2020, finds Father John Misty - aka Josh Tillman - and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson resuming their longtime collaboration, with Dave Cerminara returning as engineer and mixer, plus arrangements by Drew Erickson. Basic tracks were recorded at Wilson's Five Star Studios with strings, brass and woodwinds recorded at United Recordings in a session featuring Dan Higgins and Wayne Bergeron, among others.

I was lucky enough to see Father John in 2015 at the only Coachella I’ve been to, urged on by a friend who loved him, even though I was lukewarm on his record. But what I saw on that scorching hot day made me happy I was in that miserable place to see it. And now I find myself looking forward to his new music, which I’m listening to as I write this. Not many songwriters can take you on a voyage in one song where at one point you feel like you’re in the back seat of your parent’s car in 1976 as Jim Croce croons out of the AM radio but by the end of the same song you’re pretty sure you’re hearing the future of music. That’s the gift Father John has given to this music lover, and I hope you can unwrap similar feelings while listening to Chloë And The Next 20th Century.
