Elegant Weapons return with Evolution, a riff-driven heavy metal album led by Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner and powered by arena-sized hooks and veteran muscle.

Elegant Weapons return with Evolution, the second album from a quartet whose combined résumés read like a roll call of classic heavy metal. Guitarist Richie Faulkner of Judas Priest leads the charge alongside vocalist Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, MSG), bassist Dave Rimmer of Uriah Heep, and drummer Christopher Williams of Accept. What began as a side project among seasoned players has quickly taken on a life of its own, with the group leaning into a shared identity built on sharp riffing, arena-sized hooks, and the kind of chemistry that only comes from musicians who’ve spent decades onstage.

Their 2023 debut Horns For A Halo introduced the band with authority. Tracks like “Do Or Die” racked up millions of streams while critics praised the record’s straight-ahead heavy metal punch. Elegant Weapons carried that momentum to festival stages including Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Resurrection Fest, along with a high-profile run supporting Pantera. By the time the band reconvened to begin work on the follow-up, they had logged enough time together to sharpen the collective edge that defines their sound.

On Evolution, Faulkner and producer Andy Sneap once again take the production reins. The recording process stretched across continents, reflecting the members’ packed schedules. Williams tracked drums in Nashville to capture the feel of a live rhythm section, while Romero recorded vocals from Europe, Rimmer added bass in France, and Faulkner completed guitar work at home in Nashville. Sneap’s mixing tied the far-flung sessions together into a cohesive whole.

The album opens with “Evil Eyes,” a fast-moving introduction driven by palm-muted guitar work and a heavy groove that quickly settles into a dark, hook-filled chorus. “Generation Me” follows with a muscular riff and a pointed lyrical theme, tackling the modern tendency for every generation to see its own struggles as uniquely difficult in an age shaped by constant online noise.

“Bridges Burn” pushes the band’s melodic instincts forward. A galloping riff powers the track while Romero’s vocals ride an explosive chorus built for the stage. Elsewhere on the album, guests lend their touch, including guitarist Jared James Nichols on “Thrown To The Wolves,” while Adam Wakeman contributes keyboards to the seven-minute “Keeper of the Keys” and Hammond organ on “Come Back To Me.”

One of the album’s most personal moments arrives with the instrumental “Rupture.” The track draws inspiration from Faulkner’s own near-fatal aortic aneurysm and dissection suffered onstage with Judas Priest in 2021. Built around an irregular heartbeat-like rhythm, the song unfolds from quiet tension to a surge of distortion that mirrors the emotional weight of the experience. The following track, “Mercy of the Fallen,” picks up that thread with towering riffs and a chorus that channels resilience after crisis.

With Evolution, Elegant Weapons sound less like a project and more like a band finding its footing. The pedigree was never in question. What stands out now is how naturally these players lock together, forging a modern heavy metal record that balances precision, power, and the confidence that comes from decades in the game.
