For The People finds Dropkick Murphys fired up and full of heart, blending working-class grit, family spirit, and defiant optimism. Guests include Billy Bragg and the return of the band's co-lead vocalist, Al Barr.
On For The People, Dropkick Murphys sound both seasoned and freshly fired up. The Boston legends’ 13th studio album digs deep into the heart of everyday life, from family ties and working-class struggles to the kind of hope that refuses to fade. Across 12 new songs, the band reclaims the unity and conviction that defined their earliest days, charging forward with both joy and purpose. Produced and mixed by longtime collaborator Ted Hutt, the record captures the full range of the Murphys’ sound: boisterous, heartfelt, and defiantly human.
Ken Casey’s lyrics speak to what matters most - justice, love, and legacy. “We’ve always had the same message and haven’t been afraid to speak out about what’s important to us,” he says. “But for me now, I think about my kids’ future, and the next generation. That could be anything from speaking out against injustices, or just simply making sure you take the time to tell the people close to you how important they are to you.”
The album features guest appearances from Billy Bragg, the Mary Wallopers, the Scratch, and original co-vocalist Al Barr, whose unmistakable voice returns on “The Vultures Circle High.” Barr, currently on leave for family reasons, remains an integral part of the band’s story. “Al is still taking time off for family,” Casey shares, “but he’s still part of our family, so we thought it would be nice to have his voice on this record.”
Another standout moment arrives in the closing track “One Last Goodbye,” featuring the Scratch, a moving tribute to the late Shane MacGowan of the Pogues. The album also includes four previously unreleased songs and the 2024 single “Sirens.” The striking cover artwork was created by Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number One, echoing the record’s themes of resilience and solidarity.
For The People is the sound of Dropkick Murphys standing tall, still loud, and lifting voices for anyone who believes in something worth fighting for.
