Daniel Young - Another Golden Hour

Daniel Young’s Another Golden Hour finds the Salt Lake City songwriter chasing fleeting light with warm Americana, heartfelt performances, and a quiet sense of hope earned the hard way.

Daniel Young returns with Another Golden Hour, a warm-wired and quietly defiant new album that captures the fleeting moment when light, time, and intention briefly line up. Recorded at Orchard Studios over an intense two-day session, the record leans into immediacy, letting songs breathe in real time rather than polishing away their edges.

A multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Salt Lake City, Young has been writing, recording, and performing for more than two decades. It’s a stretch of time built on repetition, patience, and trust in his own instincts. Raised high in the mountains outside Salt Lake City, Young absorbed a sense of scale early on, and that wide-open feeling continues to shape the way his songs move, rising gently before settling back into something grounded and human.

Another Golden Hour reunites Young with the Rambling Roses, the same band behind 2024’s Leave It Out to Dry. The chemistry remains intact. The performances feel lived-in and unforced, stitched together by shared time rather than studio tricks. With only a handful of overdubs, the album preserves the grain of the room and the emotional temperature of the moment.

Across the album, Young pulls from both memory and unrest. “Baby, Baby Blue” tips its hat to the late KSOP AM 1370, a longtime Salt Lake City country station whose signal once carried music across valleys and kitchens alike. “Holdin’ Up” takes stock of a modern anxiety that feels familiar and new all at once. Elsewhere, songs like “Fires Shall Be Ceased” and “Ways to Communicate” draw from the long arc of American protest music, echoing voices that once traveled through picket lines and union halls, now reframed for the Wasatch and the present tense.

At its core, Another Golden Hour reaches for hope without pretending it comes easy. These are songs written in passing light, aware of how quickly it fades, but willing to stand in it anyway. For Young, that moment matters. Capture it, let it ring, and trust it to return tomorrow.
