For this re-release of Chick Corea Elektric Band II's Paint The World, the rare track "Final Frontier" from the Japanese and European editions has been added to complete the package.
In 1993, the late great Chick Corea, a 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, introduced the second iteration of his Elektric Band. This new lineup featured guitarist Mike Miller, bassist Jimmy Earl, drummer Gary Novak, and saxophonist Eric Marienthal - the only returning member from the original group. True to form, Corea approached this project with his trademark boundary-pushing vision of modern jazz.
Crafting material specifically for this ensemble, Corea brought these exceptionally versatile musicians to Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles. The album, recorded almost entirely live in first takes, showcases a “less is more” philosophy that highlights Corea’s distinctive genre-bending compositions. While the focus leaned more towards acoustic piano than synthesizers, the album retains the hallmark proficiency, spontaneity, flawless execution, and dazzling musicianship that defined the first five Elektric Band albums.
A standout track on this reissue is “Final Frontier,” initially released only on the Japanese and European editions. This high-energy piece, featuring Corea on synthesizer, serves as a response to “Got A Match” from 1986’s The Chick Corea Elektric Band album. “Final Frontier” offers an uptempo platform for the musicians to showcase their talents, epitomizing the jazz fusion style that Corea and his bands have long championed.
