Born Of Osiris rise from the abyss with Through Shadows, a record that hits like a war cry then lingers like a ghost.
After four long years planning their next move, Chicago metalcore mainstays Born Of Osiris have clawed their way back into the spotlight with Through Shadows - a ferocious, cinematic statement of purpose that reaffirms their place at the peak of the progressive metalcore heap.
Through Shadows marks the band’s first full-length since 2021’s Angel Or Alien, and it’s an evolution as much as it is a summation of everything that’s come before. Still grounded in the technical precision and polyrhythmic violence that’s defined their sound since The New Reign, the new album leans a bit more into atmosphere and introspection, with a simmering intensity.
“At its core, this record is about confronting darkness,” the band explains. “Through Shadows is a reflection of the human experience - both the quiet struggles and the heavy storms. It’s about choosing the light when everything feels lost.”
That message hits hardest on the album’s title track, an in your face anthem that jets between jagged djent riffs, a surprisingly melodic chorus, and synth-drenched breakdowns. It’s classic Born Of Osiris, all brute force and spiritual urgency but with a newfound and well-earned maturity that permeates every blast beat and arpeggiated solo. All in all, they sound tighter, heavier, and more purpose-driven than ever.
Born Of Osiris first broke through in 2009 with A Higher Place, introducing a sound that married deathcore intensity with prog-rock ambition. Over the years, they’ve flirted with electronic flourishes, melodic experimentation, and cold-blooded minimalism, but Through Shadows may be their most cohesive record yet. Two decades in, they’re still evolving, still confronting the void, and still choosing light - riff after punishing riff.
