Bloc Party return with their seventh studio album, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, a deeply personal record built around love, separation and everything that happens in between. Produced by legendary producer Trevor Horn, the album follows 2022’s Alpha Games.

For frontman Kele Okereke, the album documents a turbulent period in his life, beginning with the end of his relationship with the father of his children and continuing through the unexpected arrival of a new romance. Rather than writing around those experiences, Okereke puts them at the center of the record. He has described every lyric on the album as something that actually happened to him, with the songs unfolding as a story from beginning to end.

That story plays out across 14 tracks, opening with “22.01.22” and moving through songs including “Coming On Strong,” “Love Bombs,” “Pigwig,” “Lagoon Blue,” “Worst Birthday Ever,” “Now We Can’t Be Friends” and the closing “Eulogy.” Okereke has characterized the direction as “disco heartbreak,” an apt description for an album that places romantic upheaval against the restless guitars, rhythms and dance-floor energy that have long been part of Bloc Party’s DNA.

Lead single “Coming On Strong” introduced the album’s emotional arc, while “Pigwig” brings guitarists Russell Lissack and Okereke back into the kind of sharp, rapid-fire interplay that helped define the band’s early records. With Trevor Horn behind the boards, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance also pairs one of British pop’s most distinctive producers with a band whose music has always existed somewhere between indie rock, post-punk and the dance floor.

More than two decades after Bloc Party first emerged from London with Silent Alarm, Okereke and Lissack, alongside drummer Louise Bartle and bassist Harry Deacon, continue to push the band forward. Anatomy Of A Brief Romance finds them turning one very specific chapter of Okereke’s life into something bigger: the rush of attraction, the messiness of relationships and the realization that sometimes even the most intense connections aren't built to last.
