Bahamas’ My Second Last Album finds him at his most natural and soulful, blending folk, country-funk, and pop in a warm, homegrown reflection on family, simplicity, and joy.

Bahamas (otherwise known as Alfie Jurvanen) has long turned laid-back into an art form, and My Second Last Album carries that tradition forward with quiet confidence. Recorded at home in Nova Scotia, it distills Jurvanen’s songwriting to its purest form, capturing a relaxed intimacy that feels both timeless and deeply personal. The result is a soulful blend of folk, country-funk, and pop that could only come from him.

After the classic-country shimmer of Bootcut, Jurvanen decided to skip the Nashville polish this time around. Instead, he holed up with drummer and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Van Tassel in a small shed studio called DreamDate, where the two played every instrument and followed the songs wherever they led. The result is an album that feels loose and effortless, the sound of a musician at peace with his craft.

The first single, “The Bridge,” co-written with M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger, radiates that joy. Its video features Jurvanen laughing with his family along the Nova Scotia shoreline, mirroring the song’s easy warmth and quiet optimism. Elsewhere, tracks like “Feels So Good” and “Family Man” balance groove and introspection, offering glimpses of a life recalibrated toward simplicity and connection.

With over 230 million streams for “Lost In The Light” and a Juno Award for Sad Hunk, Bahamas' steady evolution continues. My Second Last Album might be modest in title, but it stands tall as one of his most personal and quietly profound works yet.
