Bomba Estéreo and Rawayana join forces as Astropical, a zodiac-inspired supergroup project that blends coastal rhythms, electronic pulse, and pure Latin soul into one euphoric, genre-bending celebration.
When two of Latin America's most visionary acts link up, it's like a full-on cosmic event. Astropical is the unexpected but undeniable fusion of Colombia’s Bomba Estéreo and Venezuela’s Rawayana, a collaboration that quickly spiraled into a full-length album, a world tour, and the formation of a bona fide Latin supergroup.
Originally intended as a one-off, Astropical took on a life of its own, fueled by the creative spark between Bomba’s Li Saumet and José Castillo and Rawayana’s Beto Montenegro and Andrés "Fofo" Story. The result is a genre-bending celebration of Latin America’s coastal sounds where electronica meets Afrobeat, Reggaeton flirts with Champeta, and each track is aligned with a different zodiac sign. It's celestial by design and rooted in rhythm.
Both bands share production duties, blending their distinct palettes into something fresh yet familiar. Montenegro calls the single “Corazón Adentro” “a cry from the heart for life” — a declaration that fits the project’s emotional core. Saumet offers a personal touch too, recalling the inspiration behind “Una Noche en Caracas,” a memory of a transformative night in Rawayana’s hometown: “Sometimes, from the stage, you can sense the power of what people are feeling, and that night it was palpable.”
Critics are feeling it too. NPR hailed the album as “a euphoric exploration of South America's coastal sounds,” while AllMusic called it “a remarkably hip, optimistically ecstatic, and holistic work” ready to soundtrack everything from sweaty dancefloors to major life moments.
