After a year hiatus, Ashnikko is here to blow your mind with WEEDKILLER, her dystopian pop fantasy tale of rebellion.

Ashnikko, the genre-defying pop sensation who has captivated listeners with over 2.5 billion streams, is emerging as a trailblazing force in the alt-pop scene and an innovative artist who aims to transcend boundaries. Stepping into Ashnikko's songs is like stepping through a portal. You're transported into a universe that's hyper, horny, and whimsical, where emotions are magnified, gender norms are upended, and vengeance reigns supreme.

Collaborating with long-term partners Slinger and Oscar Scheller (known for their work with Charli XCX, PinkPantheress, Rina Sawayama), WEEDKILLER follows the success of Ashnikko's 2021 mixtape DEMIDEVIL and 2019 EP Hi, It's Me. These earlier releases set the stage for what’s starting to look like a rise to superstardom.

The new album introduces us to Ashnikko's created universe, a dystopian fantasy where a fairy civilization battles machines that consume organic matter. In a quest for revenge, the fairy protagonist becomes part machine, offering a poetic commentary on technology's rapid advancement and environmental decline. Within WEEDKILLER, raw vulnerability meets spirited rebellion, giving voice to the marginalized and tackling issues from sexual empowerment to ecological catastrophe.

WEEDKILLER crafts an irresistible blend of genres that have defined Ashnikko's distinctive sound. While DEMIDEVIL took a direct approach in confronting themes of sexual revolution and retribution, this release adopts a more allegorical stance. Set in a futuristic dystopia, the album unfolds as a half-concept narrative, navigating themes of oppression, love, and ecological crisis. From track to track, it forges a path toward liberation, grappling with personal anxieties and societal turmoil.

Her new album reflects Ashnikko's evolution from a self-conscious teenager into a powerful, unapologetic artist. As she tells it, the persona they cultivated allowed them to feel empowered when real-world autonomy was lacking. This persona became more authentic as they grew into adulthood.

Ashnikko explains, "My bioluminescent heart is glowing. My post-apocalyptic fae world is here for you to journey into. My wings have been ripped out, but I’ve built them anew using WEEDKILLER machine parts. I am the one sent here to eliminate you, WEEDKILLER.”

Throughout it’s 13 tracks, the album celebrates the fight for autonomy and battles against fear and oppression. Ashnikko's journey from isolation as a foreigner to embracing her unique identity has cultivated a songwriting method rooted in immersive storytelling. Her influences, ranging from powerful figures like M.I.A, Björk, and Missy Elliot to the unapologetic energy of Gwen Stefani and Hayley Williams of Paramore, have shaped her eclectic sound. By blending elements of trap, pop, and metal with a hint of childlike vocal delivery, Ashnikko's music becomes a testament to the power of embracing individuality and facing adversity with resilience.

WEEDKILLER is more than an album; it's a sonic adventure into a universe of defiance and hope. In a world often plagued by uncertainty, Ashnikko's music becomes a beacon of light, guiding listeners through darkness and towards the promise of brighter horizons.
