Charlie Haden Quartet West is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. And what better way to do this then with their new album Sophisticated Ladies, their seventh album. The group has come a long way from its early beginnings, formed by Charlie Haden in 1986 as a side project. Haden, who lives in Southern California, just wanted to play with some of the great players in Los Angeles. However, they received immediate acclaim and continued to perform and record ever since.
Charlie Haden Quartet West's Sophisticated Ladies honors some of the greatest women vocalists of our time and features the likes of Cassandra Wilson, Diana Krall, Melody Gardot, Norah Jones, Renee Fleming and Ruth Cameron. Haden explains it best, 'We wanted to feature our favorite contemporary jazz singers.'
